I did my medical training at St George's Hospital in London, qualifying in 1991. Following my pre-registration year, I joined the St George's psychiatric training scheme, gaining membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1995. I then went on to do higher psychiatric training, specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including working for over two years with Dr Lynne Drummond at the specialist OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) unit at Springfield Hospital in Tooting, which is now part of the national NHS service for severe, treatment-resistant OCD. Whilst completing my higher training, I spent several months as Locum Consultant at the OCD in-patient unit at the Bethlem Hospital (part of the Maudsley service), which is also now part of the national OCD service.

I did my specialist CBT training in Oxford, which is an internationally-recognised centre of excellence for CBT, and gained my Diploma in Cognitive Therapy in 1997. I am accredited as a CBT therapist by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

In 2000 I gained my Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in psychotherapy (CBT) and was entered on to the Specialist Register. I was appointed as Consultant in charge of the CBT service for the City & Hackney locality, part of the East London & The City NHS Trust. I further developed this service over the next six years, before leaving the NHS to set up in private practice.

I joined the Priory group at The Priory Ticehurst House, East Sussex in 2006 and was appointed Lead Consultant for the Therapy service there. As well as operating my private practice, I am external examiner for the Diploma in Behavioural Cognitive Psychotherapy at the University of London ( St George's ) plus I sit on the Medical Advisory Panel for Maternal OCD , an initiative which aims to raise the profile of OCD in mothers.
